The Shoe Game

How does the Shoe Game work?
The Shoe Game is fun and sets the stage for a lot of laughs with your guests. You can ask a range of Shoe Game Questions from sweet & insightful, to hilarious or even dirty and divisive!
This works well in the middle of the dance floor where your guests can stand up and crowd around. Place two chairs, back to back so both bride & groom can each have a seat. Both take off your shoes, and swap one so you both have one of each shoe. The host (DJ/MC or someone such as the best man or maid of honour) will ask you a series of questions. In order to answer the Shoe Game Questions, both bride and groom each lift one of the shoes. A lot of the fun, is in the interaction and being able to see the struggles the bride & groom have answering some of the questions.
Shoe Game Tips
You Don’t Need Shoes – It’s called the Shoe game, but you don’t have to use shoes. You can have your faces printed out and put on sticks or teddy bears to represent you both. Why not try something meaningful to you both, just make sure your guests understand what it is and can tell they represent the Bride & Groom.
Keep The Shoe Game Questions A Surprise – If you know what the Shoe Game Questions will be, then that’s no fun! It’s best if you don’t know what will be asked so your reactions are spontaneous and genuine. The unexpected questions are the ones that create all the fun!
Keep It Short – Make your game slightly too short and don’t overstay your welcome. Nothing kills the vibe of this game more than asking too may questions. Just because there are thousands of Shoe Game Questions you could ask, it doesn’t mean you have to ask them all. You only want the game played for 5-7 minutes. Realistically, you might only ask 20-25 questions! There are some example questions below to give you an idea.
Start Off Easy – A good Wedding DJ will start off with the simple Shoe Game Questions. It gives your guests a chance to warm up to what is happening and gives, the bride & groom a chance to get used to holding up the right shoe without being confused. Once everyone is in the flow the questions can be ramped up to funnier ones. Starting off with something uber personalised or tricky to answer is a mistake. Starting easy with “who’s the better cook?” for example is better than “who has the better in-laws?”
Choose The Right Host – Your DJ/MC will be happy to ask the Shoe Game Questions and maybe the best choice as they will have experience. If you would like a friend or family member to ask the questions then choose someone with a good sense of humour, who can read the crowd and tailor questions to suit. Ask them to have more questions than needed and let them choose the best ones in the moment. As above, start easy and dial up the intensity as things go on.
Open Mic – You can get your audience to ask some Shoe Game Questions. The host can run around, and take the mic to people who want to ask their own ‘often quirky’ questions. However, a word of caution with this. Guest may ask something insightful, but a little too… ‘inside jokey’. It may be funny for you, but might leave the rest of your guests scratching their heads. Guests may also ask inappropriate or just super lame questions that may take all the energy away. You may want the host to hear the questions first before you broadcast them aloud, just in case. If you do want to go this route, keep it limited! A few questions from the crowd might be lots of fun, but not all of them.
Finish On A High – You want to make sure, the host leaves the crowd wanting more rather than getting tired out and heading for the exits. Finish up with a great Shoe Game Question such as “Right now, who do you love more than anyone in the world?”
